The pistons on my 2015 WRX have rusted really bad... being in snow weather my car does get a bunch of salt.. but I didn't expect the pistons to catch so much rust.. do they need to be replaced?

If the seal is good and it moved freely no. If either of those conditions are not met yes

Thanks man. the seals looked OK... I have put everything back together... just the amount rust scared me a bit..

Yeah as long as the Piston covered by the boot is fine and the Piston moves in and out. You'll be hard pressed not to have rusted pistons depending on where you live. Using a stiff brush just clean it off.

Throw some brake grease on there at every change to help stop the corrosion.
