Road noise vs Engine noise in the WRX

If you ask me, there is TOO MUCH road noise, but NOT ENOUGH engine noise.

I don't think it's any secret impreza's are loud when it comes to road noise. However, I've figured out the WRX cabin is pretty well insulated from the engine noise somehow. When you drive/stand next to a WRX you can hear the awesome engine rumble and the blow off valve! But from inside, really nothing. :-(

Anyone else feel the same way?

I've never been a huge fan of s roaring engine or exhaust note in the cabin. I will agree that the newer cars transfer far more road noise into the cabin than the engine produces.
my 17 was very road noisy. 18 not nearly as bad.
It is a known thing.
Road noise is terrible on the new WRXs.
Drive a Ford Fusion and you will see the difference.

But like XJman, not sure I want more noise of any sort in the cabin.
I've never been triggered by excessive noise of any kind in my '16 WRX honestly. I've heard much worse.

Edit: *except maybe the rattles. If that's an excessive noise, then I've been triggered.
Road noise and rattles are par for the course. Get used to them or buy a Honda Accord. The GTI also offers synthetic engine noises, less rattles, and less road noise.
You could just swap in a different intake and proper tune. It should give you some relatively cheap thrills.
ive driven my wrx to montreal 2 times now and even with the noisy winter tires it doesn't bother me, i always have music on so i don't even notice. the engine noise almost seems too loud inside to be real... the stock exhaust is so quiet outside its hard to believe that much noise is making it into the cabin...

^This.
I have a 13 STi , as the stock Dunlop tires wear , they get way noisier . Subaru's do tend to have excessive road noise , and through research , I've found it's because of our wide / low profile tires and lack of body sound deadening material . I saw a you-tube video where a guy installed some kind of mat to all the open panels and that seemed to help a lot .

Dynamat and it will kill sound in a big way

For sure some of this (here's what I used) and definitely some of this -> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0736LXVX2/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Put both in every nook and cranny, trunk, under rear seat, inside doors, etc. Everywhere you can roll it either with a roller or the back of a screwdriver (in tight spaces). I still have the floor to do (summer job), but have already noticed a huge difference. If not for the noisemaker SPT exhaust, I'd probably be happy now.

It's also nice to tap on the doors and hear a solid thud.
