Hello. I have a 07 Impreza WRX Wagon. Recently I found out when I stepped on the brake pedal, all my rear brake lights are not light up. It doesn't happen everytime, but I feel dangerous to drive in this situation. The car stop perfectly except the light issues bother me alot. I don't know when the lights are functional or not especially in the day time. Does anyone have any idea what it is happening? Which part should I start investigating?

Thanks!!!!

Brake switch is usually my first suspect.

If it is not the brake switch (which I also suspect), the second place I would look is the grounding wire to that specific circuit. Intermittent grounds have caused lots of vehicle electrical functioning issues.

Here’s another video that could be helpful in understanding and replacing the brake switch — though I can not confirm if the part used in a 2014 Forrester is the same for our current gen WRX’s.

Best of luck.
