These are REAL dyno numbers and a REAL 1/4 mile time slip.

http://www.sffba.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12873

I really could care less if its a "Neon". This car has major potential. Stick some drag radials on this car and your seeing 13.7s STOCK.

14.1 at 99mph with a 2.1 60ft and only 700 miles on the clock. The more miles on this car the quicker it will get. Other sources have also seen the SRT-4 run 102-103mph trap times. That's freakin awesome. I'm sure all the REAL enthusiasts will appreciate this car.

1. Throw that spoiler in the garbage

2. Invest in a boost controller and drag radials.

3. Take it to the track and run 13.3's all day :D

Definitely a sweet performance car. Especially for the price. Wonder how long it'll take to gain some respect from people, if it ever does.

It's got my respect. I've always been a muscle car guy, and they've always been "lightweight, no luxuries, cheap" (hemi dart, hi-po Mustang, etc. etc.) - the Neon is the latest in a long line of Detroit flexing. :D

True true, but I was talking more along the lines of the "it's still a neon" comments. Granted it's not the nicest car, but performance was it's goal to start off with, and people should say "damn that neon's fast" instead of "damn that fast car has a horrible interior". Just my opinion.

Reading that thread makes me what to go out and buy an LS1 Fbody.

I do miss my LS1. You know you can pick up a low mileage LS1 for pretty cheap.
A couple of the comments that were mentioned by the LS1 guys is that the Neon SRT-4 is a "cute car" and they wouldn't want to be seen in one.
I agree. I still think it looks like a girls car or maybe a 16 year olds car. But when they start running 12s at the track with simple mods I may change my mind.:D

I said the same thing about that wing but they claim its "fully functional" not to mention it needs to be dropped a little, mainly in the back.

Shaitiger,

Thanks for sharing that info. That is truly amazing for a $20k car. I believe those are about the same numbers by '96 LT1 M6 was putting to the wheels.

If all you have is $20k for a new car, the Neon is your only choice.

If you have the $25k+ for a WRX or $30k+ for an Evo or STi, then obviously you don't care what is being sold at the $20k level.
That sounds fine, but I didn't start this thread to compare it to other cars or what they cost. Its about what the SRT-4 is capable of. Thanks

Very impressive! I look forward to test-driving one (but especially the SRT-10...drool). I hope, for Daimler-Chrysler's sake, that the reliability is better than it has been on lesser Neons and other D/M's. I've honestly never thought highly of Neons, but maybe this will change things if it holds up. Yeah, I know it's not technically a Neon, but you know what I mean. ;)

Also, is anyone else concerned about what will happen to all the testosterone-drunk high school kids when they get their hands on a 215+hp FWD car? It seems like a potential disaster in the making! I mean, at least AWD can save your butt once in a while.

All in all, I'm glad there's more competition with the Rex out there. It will only help us consumers in the end. Let the hp/torque/traction wars begin (err...continue).

The one problem I ever had with this car is why didnt they make it rwd. I have absolutly no desire to drive a 300hp fwd car open differential or not and I know alot of people that feel that way too.

I see so many high school guys and girls running around in LS1 WS6 Trans Ams and Camaro SS's in the north Dallas suburban area. Hell, some of them even have mods! YOu wanna talk about a disaster waiting to happen (can you say spin out?). But ya, I see what you mean. I can see some of them trying to do WRX cornering maneuvers in their SRT-4's.

Yeah...heaven forbid they try and corner like a WRX in a better handling car

Hehe. I'm impressed. But, then again, if you know me you knew I would be :p IMNSHO, the reliability issues that come to play will be with body panels, interior, electronics, etc. and not drivetrain. Dodge has shown in the past that they know what it takes to build a stout turbo engine, and I don't doubt that they have done it again. They are making a big statement with this car, and they aren't taking the SRT-4's durability lightly.

Yeah, the suspension on the WRX is a little soft in stock form. After watching the SRT-4 on motortrend last night I laughed my A$$ off when they were spinning one wheel around corners. I'd take a AWD drift any day over that ridiculous display of understeer and traction loss.

It would have been too expensive to make it rwd. It was much cheaper to add power to the existing platform.

BTW, great avatar.

As would I. I just thought his comment was funny. The SRT-4 pulls higher skidpad and slalom numbers, and I'd bet turns faster track times...spinning understeer or not.
