I own a 2002 WRX, the car has been sitting for about 2 years now with 80,000 Miles on it. The reason the car hasn't been driven is i haven't had the money to fix it for personal issues and second of all there is a loud ping on the left/passenger side of my engine. The engine has gone through a diagonistic and was told that my 3rd piston is bad. The car runs fine at slow speeds, engine light blinks, and when i accelarate it feels like the engine management kicks in. I was told by somone else that it is not My Pistons, but that it may be a timing issue. Any one have any Idea what this may be?

Also, Im thinking about rebuilding the block. Im not sure if i want to do bore out the block to a 92.5mm or a 93mm with Wiseco Forged pistions and Eagle H rods or keep it at a stnd size. Any suggestions much appreciated?

Future mods:
Invida Upipe, dowpipe, HKS titanium CF exhaust
Agency power Headers

Current mods:
Turbo XS Boost Controller
GFB BOV (recirculating)
LightWeight Racing flywheel
AEM Cold Air Intake

Sounds like your motor is toast.

Often buying an already rebuilt bottom end is cheaper than rebuilding your existing one. Good time to upgrade to a 2.5l block.

The cost of rebuilding the current block is about $2900 including the piston & rod set. Would it be ok if used the 2.0 Heads?

Yes you can use 2.0l heads

You can get a build 2.5l short block for less than that, with a stock sti 2.5l block running $1700.

These guys can help get you a whole motor:

You arent running any computer tuning?
Currently I am not. I spoke to the guys @ worldperformance and they gave me a few suggestions. Im thinking about buying a 2.5 STI block from gruppe-s for $2099 and have them install and tune my car, Unless i find the same block cheaper elsewhere

Ask around the Bay Area Forum on i-club before you let Gruppe-S touch your car :)

The only problem is the installation is going to cost me just as much as the block itself = $1900 installed

I really would not believe it is a timing issue...that does not make sense. The timing would be off on all cylinders if the timing was off at all.

+1 on the compression test.

-1 on having Gruppe-S touch your car.

Anyway, jdmspec4u come VERY HIGHLY recommended. Their staff is very helpful and their prices are reasonable.
