hey guys, i've been noticing an obvious smell of oil from my car lately. it happens after my car is properly warmed up and tends to be more obvious when driven under harder load, more boost and warmer temperatures.

Anyway, i had what appeared to be an oil leak so i thought i had solved the problem. I cleaned it up and it still smelled but no leak. i conclued this must have been a spill from a previous time. Anyway, after a bit of "sniffing around" i noticed the smell was most definitely coming from the intake. I've read that it's common to have oil in the intake from blow by. I haven't noticed any oil consumption since my last oil change, it's been full for probably around 2000kms, but it's hard to tell, maybe it has gone down a BIT but if it has, it's not much. i'm using mobil 1 5w30 and my car has 145k KMS on it (90k miles). stage 1 tune.

could this just simply be blow by? should i use a heavier oil perhaps? maybe a catch can or AOS wouldn't be a bad idea? any advice or thoughts are appreciated.

It's most likely blow by. Is your exhaust smoking at all? I'd definitely recommend you get an AOS.

i haven't noticed any blue smoke. i'm thinking i may try 10w30 and not mobil 1 on my next oil change. if i still have the same problem i'll entertain the idea of an aos.

You can still use 5w30, just don't use mobil 1...burns off too quickly and people don't keep an eye on it.

From the factory, its normal for you to have some oil in your intake system, like stated, its blow by. It will continue to happen. Solution is getting a Catch Can setup or a simple AOS like stated before. If you need a price let me know.

thanks for the info. Yeah, i've read that blow by is normal, i just wasn't sure if i was supposed to be able to smell oil 15 feet from my car after it's been running, haha. i'll try a different 5w30 synth and maybe a catch can setup. thanks again!
