Oil pan (03 rex)

So... I just went to do my first oil change after buying my car (2003 WRX wagon,150k ...not really "new"). Anyways, I found a nice surprise attached to the oil pan...

(These aren't my actual plug, but much better pictures I found on the web)

So my drain plug is stripped. I think I'm going to need a new oil pan. I was wondering if anyone knows of an oil pan that has a built in temp sensor? Or one with two drains? I'm going to put a fumoto plug in, but I would also like to hook up the temp gage I have sitting around too.

Anyone have any ideas? And would now be a good time to do the up/down pipe too? Or are there any upgrades/maintenance I can do while I have the oil pan off?

And so he said, "Go forth with greasy hands and fixith thy bugeye."

...and it was attemptedeth.

Well you should check over the oil pick up tube in the oil pan now that the pan is off. Subaru had an issue with pickup tubes cracking and causing catastrophic engine failure on the turboed engine but I can't recall if it affected the bugeye or not. If the uppipe is not already catless it then would be a good idea to do the uppipe.

Will definitely check the oil pick up. And my uppipe is still catted so I guess I'll do that now too ...may as well do the downpipe as well though.

Maybe I should just do an EJ257 swap too, and drop in a six speed, and grab a bigger turbo.... Haha If only my wallet could keep up.
I personally would just retap the hole for a bigger plug.
That oil pan looks interesting though, seems to be aftermarket.
I'd either retap the original pan for the next size up and get a Fumoto, or replace the pan entirely -- at that point, I'd consider what the pickup tube looks like too and probably swap that too -- and even then I'd still fit a Fumoto.

Oh.. that's a picture I found on the web. Not actually mine. My pictures didn't show it very well so I opted to use a different picture. Mine is below:

Yep. This was my plan exactly. Because my car is older, I've decided whenever I find something wrong, I'm going to replace it if possible. That way I know it'll keep working for a long time.
Yours seems bone dry; so far, so good. You may be able to delay your decision for a l o n g time by simply buying another $4 rubber plug and fitting a new one every oil change (I don't think they last very long so they should be changed at some point).

Ah I see, I thought you meant only the bottom picture was from the web. I was gonna say it looked like the pan was out of a VW lol

Haha damn... You've got your oil pans memorized. Thats from a VW van!
Just in case anyone was wondering... I've been driving for about a month now with a new "boat plug" in my oil pan. No problems so far, no leaks ...still planning on replacing with the STi pan, but that will come when I do the up/down pipes in another 2500 miles.
