I just completed a total rebuild of an 02 WRX engine and got all the bugs worked out... for the most part. No check engine light!

Only issue that bothers me is the coolant temperature it runs at. What temperature should I be expecting if I let it warm up and sit there at idle? Mine is currently at about 185 degrees which just seems a bit hot in my opinion but I have very little experience with this car. The temperature guage on the dash indicates about half way up, not near the red line.

Took it for a quick spin and the temp got up over 200 degrees, to about 205 under load. I chickened out and didn't want to get too far from home so I brought it back and parked it last night. Considering replacing the thermostat with an OEM one since there's a NAPA thermostat in there right now.

Ideas?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. From some of what I read it seemed normal but I guess I just wanted a second opinion for reassurance.

It sounds like you’ve got a 185 degree thermostat.
