One of our former members Matt (can't remember his username) just imported a pristine GTI-R. I was supremely jealous.

This is the coolest homologation special that never did anything worth a damn lol

Those are cool cars! They used an online 4 but place the IC on the top. This was OK for a road car but for GrA it caused heat exchange problems. They’d run the car with a light pod in broad daylight in an attempt to get something up front to deflect air into the scoop — because they could not switch to an FMIC under GrA/8 regulations and they were stuck with a TMIC nested above the headers. (Imagine running the Acropolis or Safari in temps over 40’ where the crews didn’t even have to wear nomex, it was that hot — but the IC is in the hottest part of the car...).

Small body and otherwise decent reliability were huge pluses otherwise. I love the looks of the car and the engine seemed fundamentally sound. The rules stood in their way though.

Under WRC-car rules it would have been no problem to go FMIC and be competitive, but they’d withdrawn by then.
