Always loved wrx's and finally getting a loan which should be enough to get a 2002 wrx, my current car in sig, has been down about 3 months from a melted piston, and Im hoping to afford a 2002 wrx and have maybe 3k left to put into rims. suspension, and performance, Im not going to ask any stupid questions in this thread as the typical newb would, just saying wasup to the community and hope to be a wrx owner within the month at the very most, guess I would like to ask 1 question, anything special I should check for when buying the used car ? clutch issues, trans noises, turbo leaks? any advice would be appreciated....

also on a side note here is a link to a vid of me racing a wrx about 6 months ago, I loved this guys car, I think it was stock with dp maybe...but I was hoping to go with the white with black look as well, I just think its dead sexy....

you hit the nail on the head...definitely watch out for tranny's on used wrx's (and wear in general). a lot of cars are being parted and taken back to stock to sell, and could be leaving behind a worn down tranny, so check for easy things like how well it shifts, the feel of it going into and out of gear. look to see if the heat shield is missing or cut to allow a larger downpipe...thats a sure sign of modding. if your getting a higher mileage car, look at the turbo/exhaust and ask yourself if it looks like its been on the car for the actual mileage or if it looks almost new.

search well and i think you will find something very nice that will last a while :thumbup:

ok thanks, owning a turbo car before I seen some bearings go and will defintely be checking shaft play, but I dont know much about the stock wrx turbo what is it ihi something right? my GTR in the escort had the IHI VJ-23 basicly same size as T3 and had old ball bearing style bearings, spooled nice and puched alot of psi max is 28 wondering if it would bolt up with an adapter and if its larger? and yeah I owned the wagon for almost 5 years was turbo for about 3 of those, but saw more down time then uptime to be honest, and any time i raced, everyone was like WTF!!! lol....I only have 15k or so to buy the wrx, so prolly will be 40k miles + is all i can prolly afford, hopefully the trans will be ok...then sell the wagon for 4k and put teh money into the wrx....from what i have heard the wrx is a good autox car also correct ?

stock turbo is a mitso td-04 13g..don't think the vj will fit, most run the vf series
