What's up fellas! WRX newbie here. Looks like I will be doing much of my research here. Anyhow, here is my recent purchase of my 02' WRX. I got it for $8900. Comments welcome!

Congrats! Looks very good.

It's crazy (good and bad) that WRX's can go for well under 10K now. Good deal. What're the miles?

I purchased it with 110,000 on the clock. 1 owner. It runs great. I just dropped it off at the dealer to take care of the 2 recalls and to get the diff oil changed.

I was doing a little research and from what I understand, the year I have has a "Glass" tranny. Also, the stealership service manager recommended I get the timing belt changed, but I also need to get the water pump and front seals replaced at the same time. Is this true? He said I am looking at about $1089.00 to get it done. What do you guys think?

Ask the previous owner if it had the 90k service performed. If not, then yes it needs to be done. I dont know how mechanically inclined you are, but I have performed the 90k service on an 02 and its not too tough and parts are way cheaper than $1089.

I will ask the previous owner if that has been done. If not, I am pretty sure I can do it since I am very mechanically inclined. Is there a sticky somewhere on here that I can read that has all the parts and instructions I need for the 90K service? Thanks in advance.

Nevermind. I found it. Thanks! If there is anything else I need to look out for on this car, please let me know. I am looking forward to getting this car in tip-top shape.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the Club! I bought my 02 Bugeye brand new over 5 years ago and she's treated me great ever since. As far as the "glass tranny" thing goes, just use smooth clutch operation and don't drive like an idiot and you'll be fine.
By the way, what front seals need to be replaced along with the timing belt and the water pump?

Well, the previous owner is not around anymore so I don't know for sure if the 90K service has been done. I just bought some new NGK plugs that I will be changing this weekend. The dealer said that I need the following:

1. Timing belt change;
2. Valve covers leaking oil (Valve cover gaskets)
3. Drive belts need to be replaced (I checked them for cracks and there are none)
4. Water pump
5. Tensioner
6. Gaskets ??
7. Cam and Crank seals leaking and lower cover.

How difficult is it to replace the valve cover gaskets?
How many drive belts are there? I only see 2. One for the A/C and the other one.

Not sure on valve cover gaskets weather or not engine removal is necessary. If I were you, I would begin with a compression test. With that many things needing to be replaced and the potential for the engine having to be removed to perform the repairs, I'd check the status of your engine, to see if you won't be $$$$ ahead rebuilding yours while you have it out, or sourcing a 2.5l block for future mod path.
