These lights could get real annoying on long drives..anyways, what mods trigger the CEL light? I know some uppipes do except for the godspeed one. Can you guys please name some products that cause the CEL to come on and mods that doesnt trigger the CEL? thank you..

I think you should take your car back to the dealer and have the ECU checked. My car is stock, My CEL came on about three months after a boutght the car. At first I thought it was my gas cap or something. But it wassin't, when I took it to the dealer they said my ECU was not programed. They said basicly my car had no brain, it was running in phantom mode. What happened was that they had to pull the ECU out and send it to the factory. I had to leave my car there for three days.

Luckly, I found this out soon while I was still breaking in the car nicely, outherwise I could have done some serious damage to the motor.

Also, because of this they hooked me up with some free accesories.

The biggest CEL issues are going to be with the exhaust. If there isn't a cat in the downpipe (or some other method of tricking the ecu), your going to get a cel. Turbo-back systems that utilize midpipe cats seem to have this problem quite frequently.

I've got a 3.0" Graham Goode turbo back (single cat in the downpipe) and GGR Uppipe. I have never had a CEL.

Some people have had CELs for a lean condition because of their intakes. I believe some early CAI's for the wrx had this problem ( I believe they were Injen, but this has since been fixed). It is usually traced back to improper placement of the MAF sensor in the intake tube or due to a very radical intake design (APS).

Others have reported getting CELs due to lightweight pulleys, however, this was only on highly modified engines.

Hmm.. If you use something like an ITC to alter timing, you may have problems, the stock ecu doesn't like the timing altered very much from what it's expecting.

If your worried about CEL's, get yourself an OBD-II scanner, it will allow you to pull and reset your codes. If not, make a friend in the area with one.

The only CEL I've had problems with was my MAF and it turned out to be because it was bad. Other than that the car has been trouble free. Yes if you go catless, most of the time you will get CEL's. That's why I designed my downpipe to eliminate that concern. Now remember, that I did get an evap code which many people have gotten on the earlier cars due to the ECU code being too sensitive. The ECU is just not very well done and will throw codes occasionally for no reason. Annoying but such are the problems of dealing with such a small company. This would never happen over at Toyota.
