Magnaflow catback with welded catless down pipe

627 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Thechosen1
Okay so i bought a used magnaflow catback and the guy had a megan racing down pipe welded and bolted. (Not exactly sure why? Is this better than a gasket and bolts?) anyways im wondering what is the best way to go about installing this beast. Car is a 2012 wrx. Oh and if anyone can tell me about what kind of hangers to buy or should i re use the stock ones. Thannks

You're going to need to tune the car for the downpipe.. other than that, I suggest soaking all the bolts overnight with PB Blaster, and get a new turbo->downpipe gasket to put on. Spray the hangers with PB Blaster and use a screwdriver to pry them off. As long as you don't tear up the hangers you should be able to reuse them.
What about the fact that im going to be hanging this as one giant piece. I feel like its going to suck. And thats a good idea about soaking the bolts i was also planning on stocking up on some extra ones incase they strip
I dont think it'll be bad with 2 people if you got a few beers and a friend. If it were me I'd try to get it aligned onto the turbo, barely thread the nuts so its still aligned but has plenty of wiggle room, then work on the hangars and proceed to tightening the nuts on turbo after. Maybe itll be different for your car. I'm going off what I know about my 02.

It'll be a little harder it get it lined up in place, but not impossible. A couple extra hands will help, or prop it up on boxes or something while you're trying to thread it in there.
