Michelin Pilot Super Sport 225/45/17 on OZ Alleggerita 17" x 8" wheels. I've been eying up this combo for several months now.

This will be the 3rd set of aftermarket wheels I have bought for my WRX. At 15.7 pounds the Alleggeritas are nearly as light as the 15.3 pound 17" x 8" WedsSport TC105Ns I'm currently using.

The 22 pound weight of the Michelin Pilot Super Sports more than makes up for that difference when compared to the 26 pound Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs I've been running for some time now. All of the quoted weights were posted on Tire Rack's site. The OZ and Michelin site data is very close to TRs.

The WedsSports were / are a less than an ideal fit on the WRX with their +42 mm offset, requiring a fair amount of negative camber (~ -2 degrees) to clear the rear fenders.

I stupidly had them powdercoated last year in a finish that was neither especially good looking or durable. I think they botched the powdercoat baking process that left the finish more prone to chipping than standard painting. The relatively large metalflake silvery finish looked good on a sample swatch, but not so much on the finished wheels.

I suppose I'll hang onto the Weds / Dunlop for autox use for a time, then possibly selling them to recoup some of the $2100 + cost of me WRX's new shoes.

I want those wheels :sadwave:

If I were to buy them, I've been debating stepping up to the 18s (since they offer 8.5 width).

They arrived today. :)

I have never been a fan of darker wheels - looks like these will take some getting used to. The overly light powder coat I had done on the Weds were less than I'd hoped for. Between the two I'd have to say the Alleggerita is more contemporary and dare I say it - aggressive looking (not what I was going for). I would have preferred the bright silver the old Superleggeras I still have (now winter wheels). Oh well ...

OZ finished the inside of the wheels black - a nice touch for a darker wheel. When the inevitable tar spots get stuck to the wheels, they won't stick out like a turd in a punchbowl. Tire Rack actually used matching black painted wheel weights - another nice touch. There is not too much lead on any of the wheels. A sign of quality wheels and tires?

I took the WRX for a ride to seat and re-torque the lugs. Very initial impressions on the Michelins: a noticeably smoother ride. The extra rubber on the tread surely helped a bit. As expected of new tires, the on center feel is a tad squishy compared to the Dunlops. At more than half way past their practical tread life the ride is harsh, but feel very well connected. I'll be kind to the Michelins during break in and see what they can do. Stay tuned. :)

I may have missed something somewhere.Weren't you the guy who hated black wheels as much as Lokey hates RAmudflaps?

In any case they look great.Hopefully I will have something similar soon.

Yes ... these are not black. :p Closer to than I'd like though ...

I think they are easier to look at than the PC'd Weds.

I was looking at those at the time I bought the Enkei wheels last year for my STI, but they were just a bit too pricey at the time for my budget.

I just ordered new summer shoes too since I'm taking my STI to the track this weekend and my stock tires are going to be toast. I went with the Dunlop Direzza Star Spec due to the reviews that put them near the top of the heap combined with the price that's pretty low as far as very high performance summer tires goes.
