If I remember the story right, in automotive history there was this vocal guy (can't remember his name) in I think fuel economy or was it safety?....well flash forward to today, he's old and his wife is old. He's worried about the safety of his elderly wife when the airbag goes off.
He did a couple shots of disabling the airbag, and fool the sensors, basically with a potentiometer and found the correct resistance as the SRS light when off, and stick the correct resistor in.
The quick law says you can do it. A shop cannot, unless you sign a set of waivers so that they are not liable.
It was an article in Car & Driver titled something like "Just Say No to Airbags"
