So I am trying to deal with a plastic squeaking/rubbing noise that is occurring on my 2012 WRX. It is coming from the center lower holding area right under the air conditioner. This all started after I installed a double din Kenwood radio. My longshot guess is that the radio I installed is heavier than the stock one and is making the center console rub against the cubby holder under it. Reason for thinking that is when it is making the noise while driving, if I push up against the center dash the noise will go away.

I have already tried to taking apart all the pieces and putting them back together, yet the noise will not go away. So I need to figure out what I can put on the panel in order to not make the noise. I know where the sound comes from but not specifically where on the panel so it is going to take a lot of trial and error with felt strips(although that is an option). Does anyone have any other suggestions? I was wondering if teflox spray existed in order to spray the piece to cover the plastic portion.

Chime in please :)

I think you hit it right on with the felt strips. just line where the plastic pieces meet in the most hidden way you can. that should stop it all from squeaking.

Another thing that *could* work, though it is not what I would choose unless all else fails.....get a spray bottle of Armorall and detail your dash/console.....but spray the Armorall directly in all the joints....this should lubricate the places whee the plastic is rubbing, which should reduce or eliminate the squeak.....at least temporarily. You could you that as an indicator of when you need to re-detail the inside of the car. :p
