Well, I WILL have one here...I'm getting it installed tomorrow so I'll have a full review here then :)

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Pictures: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4291521857

The installation took a little longer than we all had suspected, because there was already a car on the lift at Garage SPL being worked on, so they had to do the installation on the ground. Matt (the mechanic) noted that it was hard to reach the end of the stock downpipe that attached to the cat-back from a ground install, but eventually he got it out. After getting it out, he found out that my 02 sensor was cross-threaded and wasn't sure if it got damaged or anything. He was able to put it into the new downpipe just fine though.

After the install, Alex (my buddy who works there) turned it on and wow was it loud. My cousins and I went for a test drive and immediately noticed that it REALLY smells! Oh man! Does that smell go away, or at least become not as strong later? I sure hope so. In any case, we also first noticed a really loud sucking-air sound, a lot like what a short ram intake sounds like, but coming from under the car rather than in front of the passenger's seat. Perhaps it was a leak? Not sure...hopefully someone with a cat-less downpipe can shed some light on this one.

Later on, after doing some family stuff, I finally went for a test drive with my cousin. Here's a short video of us pulling out:

http://www.folkendesign.com/wrx/downpipe.wmv

It's definitely a lot louder, and it should be noted that I didn't go WOT at all in the video...probably 60% max. I had to turn my boost down since it spiked up to 1.16 bar. I also noticed that with my slushbox, it didn't shift as smooth anymore, but maybe my unichip just needs to be tuned for that. I'll be getting my unichip tuned tomorrow morning with my Blitz SUS getting put back in, so we'll see how that goes :)

Otherwise, the throttle response is incredible now, and the couple times I did go WOT it just kept pulling...I hit about 55 mph in a 35 by accident coming home from my cousin's house because the throttle was so much more responsive now. I'll have more to say tomorrow after my unichip is tuned :)

OH YEAH...and no CEL so far :)

Darn you! You tricked me into reading this post! :)

I'm getting mine Friday. I'm thinking of getting a wastegate dump tube welded onto the flange, too... hmmm....

I heard that it will cause CEL.
I know there is a fix for it...but there are couple CEL fix out there.
Which one is the best?
and where can I find it?

Excellant dude. Btw I didn't see the bell mouth design like the OEM one. I guess for the price it is great :D

OEM isn't bellmouth... it's exactly the same way (flat flange)

Yep, I'm pretty much going to be happy with my mods for awhile after this is all completed (in other words, no bigger turbo in my near future) so this should suit me just fine :D

Okay...so I'm still learning: What does a waste gate do?

As for the downpipe, how hard is it to install? I didn't see any instructions on scoobymods. Anyone have them? I'm going to install my up and downpipes at the same time since I heard it's a hell of a lot easier that way. Let me know if you guys think other wise. Thanks.

The wastegate is a pressure release valve inside the turbocharger that opens when a preset pressure is reached. This way your engine doesn't blow up. :)

It's not very hard.

Remove the intercooler
Remove the turbo heat shield
Unbolt the downpipe from the turbo
Unbolt the downpipe brackets
Unbolt the downpipe from the catback.
Unbolt the downpipe from the "hook" it rests on.

That should be about it.

Hey I got my HKS downpipe already!!!! it comes in black color, has o2 bung, and its lighter than PDE when I lift it. Downpipe is going in two weeks (cash flow problems lol)

so if verdugo can review and tell me about the CEL issue I really appreciate it :)

hks downpipe

S-wrx: could you take a pic of the section where it bolts up to the catback. I ordered one from subarustore.com and i will be using the stock catback (resonator intact) however, with a dynomax bullet muffler welded on. I just want to see if it bottle necks or is 3" all the way through. thanks...

verdugo lets hear about it!

no problem, it is all the way the same diameter. Take a look at the pics, and HKS claims that it bolts right into the stock system (resonator im assuming), I have the stock resonator too, so it better fit in two weeks or else I have to do custom piping again.
