hello, I just recently bought a 2010 wrx. I was doing a transmission oil change and as I was cleaning the plug from all the metal shavings I noticed there were threads stuck on there. I put the plug back in and it no longer tightens. So, I wanted to ask for everyone’s opinion on what you think I should do? The plug is a m26x1.5x16. Online, there is a websites called Grainger.com that sells stainless steel helical insert repair. However the insert is 39 mm in length and I need 16. Would I be able to cut the insert to size? and it’s $400.

Link to the insert? Not all threadserts will seal well because of how much material they remove

Helicoil should work fine because you have to remove less material from the hole giving you a fair amount of surface to seal.

You can cut them to length of you need.
