Discussion Starter #1
The starter in our Outback is dying. It's one of the newer beasts that can't be repaired and must be replaced.

Can anyone suggest a good online supplier for a starter? I googled and got bunches of hits, so I'm hoping someone can point me to a reputable one.

I think the dealer cost is $220. :thumbdown

And what does it mean when the price includes a "core" of $20 to $40 (depending on supplier)?

Thanks for info!

Check out www.carparts.com, www.napaonline.com, or www.partsamerica.com. A core charge is when they want your starter (or whatever) so that they can rebuild it and save money. You normally buy the part and pay a core charge and then get reimbursed when you bring your old starter back. I would check out your local napa or other auto parts store. You should be able to find a better deal than from the dealer.
