I don't know if this is the right place for this question, but....

In every car I've owned, when the pads get too low it starts to squeak to let you know its time to change them. Well, the past few weeks my brakes feel like they're grinding ever so slightly right before I come to a complete stop. Today after some "spirited highway driving" There was a HUGE amount of fade coming off the ramp and it started to shake when I came to a complete stop! It's better now but I still feel the "grinding" and it's a little worse. My question is, do I need new pads, or it it supposed to squeek first?

BTW, I have a 03 manual, bought new and I'm at 27,000 miles on original pads.

I think the only way to know for sure, is visual inspection. I don't rely on the squeek....
