Hey guys so I'm coming up on my first oil change on my brand new 2017 wrx. My sales guy, who is a Subaru ambassador and has a wrx, said he uses AMSoil signature series full synthetic I wanted to see what you guys thought about this oil. I called subaru service and they said if I didn't use my own oil they use Mobile one full synthetic. I know if I start to use AMSoil I need to continue with this oil all the time and not flip flop on oil which I'm ok with. I read another thread on here talking about diff oil filters, if I use AMSoil should I get a diff oil filter or will the oil filter at subaru be sufficient. Any experience or advice would be great.

I honestly more intrigued with the fact that the Subaru service center claims to use Mobile one NOT the Subaru recommended brand oil as used by all dealerships. Is this service center you talk about a dealership?

Amsoil is some of the best oil there is. However, you pay the price for quality. It's expensive.

I would avoid Mobile one. It's a great oil don't get me wrong. However, for some reason it tends to sheer quicker than normal in turbo charged applications. I've seen a history of bad luck with the use of mobile one in the motors. This doesn't mean it's unusable, some people claim to be using Mobile one with no issues. However, there are plenty of used oil analysis out there that show the lack of sheer resistance in that oil for me to avoid it like the plague. I advise most to do the same. FWIW, I use Mobile one exclusively in all cars as long as they aren't turbo'd.

Finally, the Subaru oil filter is your best option. If you go with aftermarket stick with WIX or Purolator PureOne

It depends so much on how you drive the car. I have heard good things about amsoil and also heard what McBill said about mobile one having issues in turbocharged applications. But if you drive the car like a street commuter and not a race car, I'd bet big money mobile one will be just fine also. Heck, I use wal-mart oil and have no issues on this car or past cars. But I drive much more mundane than most. I also agree the subaru filter is best.

Supertech synthetic gets surprisingly good UOA results for how inexpensive it is.

Read this thread regarding mobile1. http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/everyday-impreza-talk/134578314-2013-wrx-help.html
Olive.

I use Eneos 5w30 in the winter and Rotella T6 in the summer.
T6 is amazing on wrx
