Is the fabric on the hood a heatshield or used for something else? I'm considering removing is souly because it doesn't look clean enough for my taste. If it serves a decent function ill leave it and maybe replace mine with a newer cleaner one. Otherwise shes going in the trash.

Mines off, I would not worry so much as long you got a motive to remove it.
It could be protecting against battery terminal touching against the metalic hood but it should not happen in regular use anyways; sound proofing engine bay is probably another reason for it

Over 2 years old. How did you stumble on this?

No, you shouldn't remove it. It protects the paint from heat from the engine bay as well as helps keep engine noise down. I've been told it also helps keep the engine bay warm increasing thermal efficiency, but I've yet to really dig in to that claim

Don’t know man that was my top notification on tapatalk…

My car is not a daily driver; if I would be 5 days a week jammed into traffic for hours then yes I would have keep it for heat efficiency; In my case I decided to remove it but like XJ said it has a purpose
