I'm 42 yrs old and have worked hard since childhood. Mowed in the summer, papper route, baby sitting, and much more. Now in my 42nd summer the dream of owning a good quality car comes to fruit. Why am I going on...Door dinggers!
Since getting my car May 28th I have had two door dings and what looks like someone rubbing the zipper of their pants against my door. I don't care where I park it the dingers and vain vandels find me. I guess I have no choice but have the type of alarm system installed that goes off when a gnat breaks wind near my car. Your thoughts my brothers.

I hate them! I totally hate them! This one time, my friend was sitting in his car and this old lady next to him just totally smashes her door into his car...he gets out and is like "WTF lady?" and she says "What are you complaining about? As if you've never done it to someone before!"

He tried to get her to pay for the repair, but she just walked away and ignored him

this is what I constantly worry about everytime I park my car somewhere public. I hate people who arnt careful, especially around new looking cars. I just want to feed them some lead. Damn door dingers!

This is exactly why I think there should be mandatory testing on elderly drivers. These are the people who are getting all the breaks when it comes to social welfare as well as getting away with poor driving since they've lost most of their skills since they got their license back 50 years. Now I don't think all elderly are bad obviously, but certain ones need to get put in their place that just because they've lived longer, doesn't mean they have more rights on this world. I try to be as fair as possible, but what right does a half blind, old hag have driving a 5000lb, brick solid Cadillac in any direction? In my manic hatred, I would probably kick a hole into her door..........which is probably better than optionB....of starting a socialist party to implement laws to sack useless people such as witnessed by the old granny with attitude.

I always park really far away from the main group of cars whenever possible. I walk farther no doubt, but it seems better. I don't know what i would do if I caught somebody dinging my door, but it probably wouldn't be pretty. I'd feel pretty bad punching an old lady in the face.
I used to have some friends in high school that would see a car parked out in the middle of nowhere and park next to it just to spite the owner. Needless to say, I'm not their friend anymore.

Pete, my suggestion would be to find newer cars to park next to. Like that M3 that was in the parking lot the other day! Course, since you work in that strip mall, you probably have people coming and going all day! I have no door dings yet, but lots of rock chips. You just can't win!:(

i park as far away as possible too. i also never park near minivans. i know their doors are sliding, but i can envision somee 9 year old with his hockey stick swinging it into my door. i also try to park next to nicer cars. me and my roomates also try to spot eachother's cars in the lot of our complex, and pull up RIGHT next to them. that way you're real far away from anyone on the other side and you safe on the close side.

my rear passenger side door has two dings in it that look like someone deliberately SMASHED their door into mine. some people are so ignorant. even if it was your child, there is no way this person did'nt realize they dinged my door, but they walked away nonetheless.

the day i see that happen to betty, is probably going to be the first time i go to jail. i'm going to blow an o ring, and haul off and kick some 10 year old kid. either that or his stupid parent.

I do this too. Usually you see some other person that actually cares about their car. I usually park next to another nice car when possible, especially ones that cost more than mine.

I'm lucky enough to have a "reserved space" where I work....

Ok well not really, but I get it every day cause I'm the first one here. The same person parks next to me every day and knows I check for door dings. Hence none from her. When we go to the store, I try to get a spot next to an island with my drivers door on the opposite side. This way when someone parks next to me, more than likely it'll be only one person. Meaning only their drivers door gets opened. If they have a passenger, that could mean trouble, so I park as close to the curb as possible. Then I walk through the store worrying about getting door dinged, or keyed or something like that. I did however buy some touch-up paint and fix some of the rock chips. Is there any way to get rid of the brush strokes?

Try using rubbing compound made for clear coats.I too have touch up paint, and using ths one type of rubbing compound,it does get better but doesn't completely go away.I had a HUGE shopping cart impression on my front bumper, didn't notice it til I was washing my car(which is when I always find them).Be gentle on the metal, plastic you can go ape sh!t on.As far as the door dingers go,turnabout is fair play.I don't like stooping to someone elses level, but sometimes you have to in order to get your point across.I've been making a practice now of checking for door dings as I have just had it!If I see yellow paint on the other car,well...;)

People these days have no respect for other people's property. They are so caught up in their own world that there are impervious to what goes on around them. I usually try to find an end spot near an island or else I park way out in "BFE" and walk. God help the person that I catch dinging my door!

I was vacationing in Las Vegas last year and was waiting in a parking lot for my wife who went in Target for something. A Ford Expedition pulled up and parked next to me, the next thing I know a little girl (about 9 or 10 years old) flings open the passenger door and it slams into the door of my rental car. I just stared at her and her mom didn't even make a big deal out of it. I looked at the ding later and it was the size of a baseball. Thank god it was only a rental car.

I am usually one of the first people into work, so when I get here, no one elses car is next to mine. I also park way the hell out there! The problem is that eventually people start rolling into work and it seems like my car is a mini - van magnet. When I leave work, I always find my car completely surrounded by these ugly heaps. It really worries me but I haven't been dinged yet. Thank God! However, I have bigger worries. The company recently sent a memo to everybody, letting us know that in a period of 48 hours, 3 cars were stolen from our parking lot. Now I make a few rounds to the parking lot just to make sure my baby is still out there. You just can't win. I wish I had a car defense device that would set anyone that tried to take it on fire. This way, I'd do my duty as a good samaritan and take one of those idiots out! Be nice to have a device like that for door dingers as well. Even if they didn't pay for the repairs, they'd think twice before swinging their doors open like that!

Where the parking spaces are marked with a line to separate cars. If the parking lot is not too full I like to park on top of the separating line - meaning I sit right in the middle of two spots.....Sure people gonna hate me  But there is no space to park anything other than a motorcycle.....:D

To date = no dings...(correction - I saw a guy ding me once but that was when I didn't follow the above and it was on the front bumper so it bounced.)

Isn't there someone making side moldings for WRX?
Would be nice to see a clear molding kit so that you would not have to pay a few hundred bucks to have it painted the same color as your car.

You should park like me. In 2 spaces at the end of the parking lot. Sure it sucks having to walk an extra 2 min because I dont want to park by people. But in 3 years with my eclipse not a single door dinge. Talk that old paople. Just so you guys know I'm knocking on wood as I type this.
