CVT TCM Update

Hey guys,
I own a 2016 WRX CVT bought in Sept'15.
I was getting around 7.5 seconds for 0-60, my car didn't feel "powerful" and had hard shifting.
I literally was thinking about upgrading the torque converter with the one F1 Motorsports offered.

After some research, I realized that there was an update on the TCM.
I got mine updated yesterday and also had the turbo intake recall done (intake not cracked so nothing in that part).

THE TCM UPDATE MADE MY CAR BRAND NEW!
Cruising feels like the engine gained a substantial amount of torque.
Intelligent mode doesn't feel like I am driving an XV,
Sport mode became much more responsive!

Overall, I am really happy! :wiggles::woocow:

If you own a CVT WRX,
PLEASE get January 2016 update as soon as possible!

Yes...I got it too. It's TCM update(file 30919AE551) to prevent slipping when the engine is cold. My car was suddenly exhibiting this symptom. I was the first one to get it at my local dealer apparently. Acceleration from a stop is smoother and the 'shifts' feel crisper. It also seems to 'downshift' quicker and more firmly. I hate how I have to use ' marks now since it's a CVT. lol
The car has better driveability now and the fun factor went from a 6 to an 8. I'm hoping an eventual protune will make it a 10 once that powerband is fixed.
It was making me feel dumb to buy a CVT man... Because of the fact that my mom cannot drive stick.
I literally told myself that I could have got an Accord and things would have been the same -$7000 :screwy:

I plan on keeping my car for a long time. Eventually, I will make my transmission mechanically "bulletproof" with an upgraded TC and a cooling system -once the warranty is up-.
After that, because I will feel safer, I will go ahead with a DP and an intake glorified by a pro tune.
I was thinking about getting the update as well. Did you have to pay for it? My dealer wants $60 for the update since it is not a recall.
What?! don't!

If you haven't already, take your car for both air duct and turbo intake recalls.
And tell them that your shifting feels off and hard, and under warranty, your dealer is responsible to provide you the best they have.

charging $60 to improve the car? pffff.
I'm tuned, would I have to bring it back to stock in order to get this update?

It's not an ECU update...just TCM. I can't imagine it would matter. I don't think it should matter at all.

They should NOT charge you for that. Mine didn't. Go to a different dealer. ...Or just claim CVT slipping issues and have them do it when you get an oil change at the dealer or something.
AP tuned? If so, how is the drive-ability of your car after the tune?
Do you feel the increased power?

I know, but, they'll have to connect the computer. I guess i'm just a little paranoid to get flagged. I mean, i know the drill, but i wouldn't want to get it so early in the game.

I have a mild TP tune with an aFe drop in filter, it's a different car! It's not a rocket, but i can definitely feel the difference.

You'd have whatever the latest was. They don't flash old software. So if there is something new 5 years from the day this thread started you have it.
