Everytime i would shift from 3rd to 4th gear, it would make a little crunch. Especially if at high rpm's. I took the car to the dealer, and took one of their specialists for a ride and showed him teh problem, he agreed something was wrong. They were real cool about it, and gave me a 2001 escort to drive in, for free, while my car was being taken care of. It took 3 days to realize that 4th gear had messed up synchros. They talked to subaru and waited 2 days to see what they should do. Subaru sent them a brand new transmission to replace it, it arrived today, and they said my car will be done tommorow :). I just thought it was pretty cool, how nicely they handled everything. It only took about 1 week, i only got 4000 miles on my car, and already a new tranny. Sweet deal, i guess, i have no clue how 4th gear got messed up, i never grinded it or anything, weird. Anybody have similar experiences?

yes, i'm having the exact same problem with my 5th gear. I'm going to take it to the dealer soon, but i really don't want to give up my car at all, but i need to do it. :(

Heheh, once I took my old jetta in because at a certain rpm it would sound funky, and noticeable to passengers in the mornings (so the mechanic can't say they heard nothing!). Well, I was hopping it was nothing serious and instead I ended up waiting for them to re-build my engine.. in the end, after replacing almost everything they figured out it was a valve that opened up in the intake manifold.
