COBB, Perrin, Kartboy Short Shifter & WHY

So I understand that any short shifter will completely replace my factory shifter mechanism, and will also restore any excessive shifter movement due to tired or worn out shifter bushings. I have been looking into different manufactures like COBB, Perrin, and Kartboy; which personally I am leaning more towards the Kartboy brand just for this particular product.

My concerns are that when I read online for reviews of all these, people will say the following " And talking about noise you are gonna have to fit something between the shifter rod and the back-up lever because the rod is to small so it stays loose and brings another noise! Some people says that the noise will disappear but after 1500 miles its still very present!"..... blah blah blah

What does everyone else think of which brand would be more reliable, robust, feel and such?

I have a 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX Premium Hatchback 2.5

I have the same car as you. I have the KB short throw and both front and rear bushings. Idk about any noise that's due to the ST nor the bushings. I have a LWFW I just installed and that thing makes the most noise in my car. I'm happy with the purchase. The throws are shorter, stiffer, and have a bit of a mechanical feel to it

Yeah I have read wonderful things about the KB short shifter online, from retailers and forums like ClubWRX. I think the only thing that COBB (whom I prefer) has as the upper hand is the adjustable throw and height.

I probably will go with a Kartboy setup like you have.
Tbh most people that I know who have the adjustable throw leave it at
One height and never adjust it. If u want something weighted then just get a weighted shift knob

Yes most of my friends vehicles that have one installed do the same exact thing. I daily an Evo 10 GSR at the current moment with a COBB Short Shifter installed and it’s set about an half inch less than stock height which I have read is the same as KB’s.
The bushings made a bigger impact in how the throws felt vs the Short throw.
I’m ordering one Kartboy Short Shifter and Bushing Combo - Subaru Models (inc. 2008-2014 WRX / 2005-2009 Legacy GT) tonight and will post again when I have it installed on the vehicle as a follow up.

The Kartboy Short Shifter came in from Miner. Can’t wait to install it into the Rex this weekend.

The rear bushing was a bit of a PITA to install. Also make sure not to lose or break the plastic cup for the shifter. I had to drive to Subaru for it when I broke mine

I have read that most people find the rear bushing being a PITA... but I know it’s a challenge I can overcome haha. I’ll make sure to be careful and when I get the opportunity to install it I’ll update this post. Looking forward to the new throw feel

Update- Installed the Kartboy short Shifter today but not the bushings at all due to the time I had. Took everything apart and reapplied new grease after cleaning.
