Hello,

I was chking my oil today and noticed something very weird. The dipstick does not show the same front and back.

I made a video,

I'm just trying to find out if it's my vehicle or if these is something wrong with Subaru dipsticks/oil pan.

Thanks

I did some experiments and even at an angle of 45 degrees the marks are only off by less than 1/16". It depends on the thickness of the dipstick. I tried a popsicle stick and the difference is almost exactly the thickness of the stick.

The dipstick must be rubbing against something on one side which is depositing extra oil on just that side.

That’s plausible. If you are concerned you might change the oil, add a known quantity, start the engine to distribute it, and let the engine cool down so it all settles. Then note the reading on the dip stick.
