My check engine light came on(its not the gas cap) and I heard that you can just diconnect the car battery and it will go off. If its a real problem then it will come on again and then take it to the dealer. Is this true? Should I just disconnect the battery? Thanks for all the help.

It will work, but wouldn't you rather know what caused it?

They advertise it. Walk in, ask for them to check codes, they check the codes for free, drive away :D

Ok. I also just got my ecu replaced by Subaru which also caused the check engine light to go on, so I think it could be related.
