Hi,

I got a new battery and immediately after the CEL came on.
I drove for a few days figuring it would reset but no luck.
I took it to a trusted repair shop to get the code read but they said the reader wont communicate with the ECU.

The car runs fine with one issue.
If I put the key in and start it takes a few seconds of the car turning over before starting.
If I put the key in the ON position for 2 or 3 seconds and then start it turns right over and starts fine.

I took the car to the dealership and they said they have no idea what it is and it might be a wiring problem.

Any suggestions on what could be the issue?
The car is running fine and everything else works.

Its a 2013 WRX base 5 door with no mods and 28762 miles.

Sounds like maybe a loose battery cable or bad ground to me

How do you check for a bad ground? The cables are good and I had the battery and alternator checked, they were OK.
I did mention the ground but I'm not confident they checked it.

You’ll have to follow the ground cable and check.

I would suspect the one from the negative battery cable as you changed the battery and instantly had the cel. I don’t think the inability to read the ecu is related.

Have you tried another reader?

OK, so the issue was a bad ground and blown EGI fuse (fuse is in engine compartment)
Once the fuse was replaced ECU can be read, no CEl and car starts just as it should every time now.

Thanks for the assist!
