Car went in the shop a while back for P0001 code, they replaced an oil control valve that was faulty, leading to a lack of oil reaching the cam and cleard the code. All seemed well until about a month later, car backfired after shifting from 5th to 6th (barely on it) and threw a CEL.

New code was a P0420 for the catalytic converter. Before i could get it in the shop, more codes popped up for the camshaft again. The shop determined i have bad camshaft phasers. Car has 72k miles, most of which are highway. No mods other than exhaust.

Any ideas why these components would have failed? Also my cat is shot which seems odd for a newer car too.
