California + COBB, tune for emissions?

So I already know about how California emissions work with aftermarket parts, this isn't one of those threads. What I was curious about was what people do with their COBB tune when they have COBB parts installed to go get emissions testing.

I plan on getting Stage 3 + FF. As far as I know, only the downpipe would need to be replaced with a stock downpipe to pass visual + sniffer test. Would I be able to keep the same tune I used for the full stage 3 + FF, or do I need to switch it to something else? I will also probably get a pro-tune eventually, so would I be able to safely put on the stock downpipe and get the testing complete, then swap em back, or would I need to change some of the fuel components as well?

Uninstall all mods flash the stock tune, get inspected, install all mods, flash correct tune.

That's a crap load of work, I wouldn't modify my vehicle if I lived in California.

Would uninstalling all mods be necessary? I mean there are ways I can avoid the tests (certain regions don't require emissions testing more than 1 time), but I was hoping it would be possible to just swap the downpipe and not have to remove injectors or anything else.
That is the only way to ensure anything. I've seen a dozen or so threads about failing with intakes, and there is nearly a 100% chance you'll fail. You remove the tune on a flex fuel tune and run it you may as well be ready to blow it up as the stock ECU tuning will not handle the fueling mods.

So, leave it stock or put all of the mods on, take them off, and put them back on.

What car?

If you're dealing with a pre-15 model, you're looking at requiring injectors to run E85. You would need a custom tune for emission time, that accounts for a stock vehicle and injectors that flow at least 30% more than OE. There is no Cobb "base map" for stock calibration with upgraded injectors.

I think that's the answer I was looking for. It's a 2016 STI, but I was planning on buying these parts in the near future. I might hold off and just stick with stage 1 or 2.

COBB Intakes are CARB legal, however, so I don't think I should have a problem with that. I was running a non-CARB legal K&N CAI on my old car with an AEM CARB sticker and passed every time haha.

2016 STI will require an injector swap to run E85. You would need something for inspection time if you can't trailer the vehicle in/out and not have the vehicle turned on.
