Swaybar bushings will help with response a little but for better feel it sounds like you could be referring to the steering rack bushings. I don't think just changing swaybar bushings without changing the bar itself or endlinks would make much difference. The steering rack bushings you can definitely feel.
Subaru OEM rubber bushings are too soft and allow the steering rack to move round too much. Replacing with poly bushings increases road feel, makes the steering more responsive, and eliminates any slight wandering and imprecision in the steering. Also makes it easier to steer.
