Hey guys just got a 2002 WRX to take back and forth to school cuz my jeep was a gas hog. Been doing a lot of research on it and been checking the car itself to see what i got myself into. And i think i have a boost leak... If i floor it and let the boost build up in 4th it seems to almost shake and will shutter and a wisling sound and the power is not consistent. and also idk a whole lot about the car im more of a jeep guy but to get any type of boost in 1st and 2nd i have to be flooring it but 3rd 4th and 5th it only takes a little gas for it to build up pressure up enough pressure to have the BOV go off or put it on 0 or a little higher on the boost gauge. It gets up to .6 mpa or about 9 psi on the boost gauge when i really get on it. I don't know if thats what its supposed to do or not...

So i think it has a leak in the system and want to get it fixed, haven't found alot on boost leak testing for a WRX so i wanted to see if anyone had done it and how?? The car has a HKS BOV and a tuned computer and intake. Thats really all i know about the car... so any help would be awesome!!

My buddy had the same problem check all the vaccum lines(small black hoses), check the bov gasket

Ok i have checkede most of the vaccum lines and they all check out fine,

check the bov gasket

i dont realy know what a bov gasket is??

You need to pressurize your intake tract.

Just completed the DIY "find your leak" tool. - NASIOC

The gasket between the bypass valve and the intercooler.

Well BOV doesn't sputter off the pressure it is a clean drop so i don't think it is the BOV. And i only have a cat back exhaust system so it isent leaking there. Someone thinks that it is bad tuning, or that it has a manual boost controller on it but i don't think it has one. So do you think if i get someone to re tune it it will fix it??? it is already at stage one and will put out 15psi of boost if it can hold it... Any more thoughts??? I NEED HELP!!!

I'm guessing you found the problem by now. But sounds like the waste gate isn't working properly to me. It limits the amount of boost so you don't overboost. It seems like it's either out of adjustment or is cycling wrong.
