I'm looking to get a wrx in the near future and was wondering if it is a good idea to import from Japan, or buy used locally. I live in NZ.

I would always think it's easier to buy locally. However I don't live in NZ so it's hard for me to say. In general we are mostly a US based forum, but we do have a few members from NZ and Australia. Hopefully one shows up.

In the US importing a vehicle is basically a no go unless it's 25 years old or a collectors item like a 1 of 1 or something.

What is the perceived benefit of importing instead of buying locally?
