I've heard a replacement exhaust system doesn't really add any power and it's just for the added look, so would it be better to just add an Axel Back Muffler delete and does that add any performance?

Anything post-catalyst is mainly an aesthetic upgrade (look/sound). Figure out how you want the car to sound (attend local meets, hear other cars in-person), then start shopping.

Agreed 100%

On some high horsepower cars (>400), you'll start to see some minor power differences between an exhaust cutout and a muffler. Once you get to that point, your priorities are different. Until then, I'd recommend going off the sound you want.

Keep in mind other exhaust modifications that have been done to cars as well when looking around. Things such as a down pipe or mid pipe (resonated/catted/lack there of) will effect sound. Headers will have a dramatic effect on sound normally.
