I'm gunna order a new compressor in the next couple of days, but my previous idler pulley (the Dorman version) came undone at the pulley bolt, shredded the belt, and ate into the timing cover. Luckily the timing belt is fine. I'm betting I didn't torque it to spec (18 ft/lbs I think) but I'd like to take steps to keep this from happening.

I did some searching but I didn't find any posted solutions but I'd take a guess that some blue locktite, a lock washer, or a nyloc nut may do the trick? I know this pulley needs replaced from time to time and I want to make sure that any thing I do use isn't permanent.

I replaced mine 10 years ago. I think they just fail once in a while. Usually they squeak a lot rather than shred belts. Bad luck I guess. No trick needed to instal.
