Grew up with muscle cars but always admired rally cars, and have taken a rally driving course where I had crazy amount of fun.

When combined with my son’s passion for JDM cars, we are both thrilled to have a 2022 WR blue WRX in the garage. Pretty good deal (invoice) thanks to plenty of stock in the area. Free 2yrs of service and 2.9% didn’t hurt.

Went with base model because that’s what we could afford and even though the stick would have been fun, we got the CVT. Easier for my son who is a new driver, plus I really like paddle shifters from my off-roading (Yamaha YXZ). But biggest reason is because I wanted eyesight safety features. We also have a crosstrek and it has been very valuable.

Picture below was from local shop that does great job with ceramic coating.

First mods planned…
  • Avid A06 rims (18x8.5, 35mm backspace) and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4, size 245/40
  • Mud flaps (recommendations appreciated)

Would appreciate feedback on best place to sell the stock wheels and tires. < 200 miles and better than new because they got ceramic coated also. Suggestions on where to get highest dollar for them? Should I split up and sell tires/wheels separately or keep as set since already balanced with TPMS, etc.

Thanks!

One follow up question… recommendation on the 8yr/80k extended warranty I bought? I usually don’t get these but the turbo and eyesight got me wondering.

I let them throw it in on the loan for $1850, because they give 60 days to cancel for full refund. Can start diff thread somewhere else but didn’t see obvious place.

Thanks!

I'd prefer not to have to fix my cars myself. I've had to do it for many years and it's expensive, time consuming, and often times back breaking. It's worth it for me.

Thanks. I prefer dealer to fix stuff too, but wondering if anyone has experience with issues in years 3-8 and if they think $1850 is worth it.
$1850 plus interest is not a lot to pay over 5 (or loan term) years. Not sure if you’ll need it, but that nice dealership wasn’t built on them paying $10,000s out on extended warranties (assuming in house).

What is your deductible? Mileage limit? Can you go to any Subaru dealership? If you sell the car, does the balance of the warranty transfer? What are the exclusions (sometimes screens and certain gaskets/parts are excluded)? Are you liable to pay diagnosis cost? Does it include towing to nearest dealership? Have you seen reviews on the company that handles the warranty to see if they actually pay out? What maintenance is required and are you willing to keep to it?

Lots of variables here to consider before anyone can truly say if it’s a good deal.

Sorry, I didn’t clarify, 8yr/80K as I mentioned. Warranty work is supported at any Subaru dealer, no deductible, same coverage as factory warranty for first 3yrs.

I’m leaning towards cancel and then possibly add it back on near end of my 3yr warranty.

Suppose just wondering from this crowd if they think it is very likely to have $2k of problems in first 8yrs on a WRX.

That’s actually not a terrible deal based on what you supplied. Especially considering the potential RTV issue. What are the exclusions? I know you said same as factory but usually there are more written in to the extended. It’ll likely be one of the last sections. PM it or post it and I’ll read through it. Picking up my MY23 this month so curious myself.

Thanks. Will look for the fine print. Was told it is exact same exclusions as factory warranty (wear and tear parts), but I’ll share when back to the office.

FYI, I told them I only needed low miles and they offered 7/70 for $1650 and 8/80 for $1850. Perhaps a ploy, but then realized it was a turbo and supposed to add $295 but said he would honor price he quoted me.

Found other post when searching that claimed to have dealer cost of many plans and it was 1100-1200 for those above, but did say there was 200-300 adder for turbo. So it seems like a fair deal, but obviously on average not needed else they wouldn’t be making money. Keeps you coming back to the dealer though.
