I bought a Stock 2016 WRX and built it into a Travis Pastrana Subaru Rally Replica car. I've really been nerding out on rally cars lately. Just wanted to see what other WRX enthusiasts thought about my build. I live in a city with lots of traffic and found a good deal on an AUTOMATIC...yes I know, its an AUTOMATIC. When I want to ride something manual I ride my Ducati. Now that we got that out of the way, I'm looking to get more power but was told not to add too much power because the automatic transmission is not as strong as the manual transmission. It has intake and exhaust and a Cobb tune. Does anyone have any suggestions on a way to get more power without blowing the engine or transmission?

I like it, usually not my type, but I must say its got something special.

As far as power goes, I was told 300whp/275wtq is about the max you would want on a CVT, and I hope your not driving like everyday is a race day. The torque is really whats killing it, like any tranny.

I would be interested to know what can be done to the CVT to improve is power capability too! So far I’ve added an oil cooler.

You should post in BUILD thread since you build it from stock, that would be interesting to see the full development

I appreciate it. Most people lower their WRX, I went the opposite and lifted it 2 inches lol I was going to throw on a bigger turbo but the guys at Cobb recommended against it. I honestly enjoy the car as is, its a fun little car but I figured if I could get a little more power and be reliable I would try.

Within the first time I got my ‘16 , I always told myself I won’t be dropping it just because it is so damn low from ground (~4.38”) and I can see some scuffs marks already under the body skirts. Roads are rough, construction site, stores entry. If you want to go everywhere in town you can’t lower that car.

Now that I drive it less, I would maybe drop it by .8/.9 1”max but still. I dont like rubbing (well atleast that type of rub )

I do have a FXT that I wanted to lift though, I just abandoned the project.

Yeah I live in Houston and the roads are terrible. Some store entry's are so steep I still scrape. I am sure some cities it would be ok to have a slammed WRX but definitely not Houston. Plus I like to offroad so rally style made more sense to me. I can not imagine driving a lowered car here. Coilovers are already rough as it is.

A lifted FXT would be a sexy build.

That's fun. I like it.

The engine has shown to be a fairly durable unit with the failure point being the rods over the Pistons like the ej.

A member here Jaysin has a build thread on his CVT WRX. You can check it out for ideas.

I appreciate it. New to the WRX game, but I love the car so far.

I will check him out.

The VA WRX is a great vehicle in general. If I wasn't so hard headed I'd just buy one, but hatch/wagon or bust.

As long as you keep reasonable expectations the vehicles are superb. It's when you get in to that I need 500+awhp that you start missing the plot. The CVT in your WRX is just nice to drive. You lose a little of the engagement but it still holds its own.

I do love the hatch/wagon.

Yeah I don't need anything crazy, the car is fun as is. I am pretty impressed with the CVT so far. I appreciate the input!
