I've had a brake light go out and thinking this might be a good time to upgrade.. From what I've researched the LED upgrade seems to be a pay and plug process (as long as the new bulb will fit in the housing), please enlighten me if I'm mistaken. I've also read that some people have had issues with the LED brakelight replacement where they don't dim when foot is off the brake and stay consistently bright, not sure if this is an issue with all years or just the older ones? Any advice from someone who's done the upgrade would be appreciated. Thanks!

The only experience I have was over a decade ago, not on a Subaru and I had to add a resistor if I recall.

Thanks for responding, I think I'll just need to do some trial and error.

I have been using these bulbs with no issues. They are super bright and look way better than the halogens.

I also installed this to prevent hyper flashing. Bonus for the 1 tap turn signals and other features.

They do also sell a flash relay that's cheaper and meant to just prevent the hyper flashing.

EDIT: Here is just the hyper flash relay https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KQUWMZA/ref=psdc_15729651_t1_B01N6V6762

Thanks a bunch man, sounds like I will only need the relay if I replace the turn signals? Should be fine if I'm just purchasing the brake lights?

Thanks again.

Honestly I am not sure because I replaced the tail light, front and rear blinkers with led at the same time I installed the smart tap relay. I used the same bulbs for blinkers as I have a red overlay on the tail light signals. Most I can say is grab the bulbs first and if it doesn't work out, just grab the relay or smart tap.
