Is your car modified or stock?
Take the car to a performance shop like The Boost Creep in Longmont who are familiar with modified Subarus, and have them give the car a used car inspection. They'll be able to spot things that may have been a "return-to-stock" job which would point to a modified car that was stripped of aftermarket parts just prior to sale, which is somewhat common. Have them perform a compression / leakdown test, which will give you insight as to the health of the engine.
Have you performed the 60K service on your car yet? If not, this is the perfect time, as you need to pull the spark plugs (which are part of the service) to do the compression test, so replace them with new properly gapped ones while they're doing it. If the car passes the compression / leakdown tests, enjoy the car. If not, then weigh your options at that time, but know that another hefty repair bill may be in your future. A shortblock replacement with a new OE block from Subaru will run ~$4K when you add up everything that will be needed (block, labor, auxiliary parts). TBC will be able to go over everything at that time and give you better figures as to what things would cost, since they deal with these regularly.
I always recommend a compression / leakdown test, as well as a used car inspection (preferably at a shop that deals with modified Subarus, if available) prior to purchase. If you decide to sell the vehicle, please be honest with the future owner, and disclose the results of the tests you paid for. While it will impact your overall sale price, being a decent person is far more important.
