I just picked up a used 09 WRX with 32k on the odometer. Test drove the car of course and everything seemed fine. No unusual noises, great engine performance. This was 4 days ago. Last night on the way home from work it develops a very annoying "whine" coming from in front of or below the firewall. It's relative to road speed, not engine speed. I can push the clutch in, take it out of gear at 70mph and the noise is still there. I'm thinking a failing trans input shaft bearing. Anyone now of issues with these units? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Yes I did. Not a Subaru dealer though. Found it at a Ford dealership. It was a great price and I had been looking for a good used WRX for about 7 months. Maybe I should have kept looking.

Def sounds like the bearing. But if you can, take it back

I would take it in to check... but FWIW, my transmission whines like a *****, and it has for over 4 years.
