i recently bought my first wrx. its an 03, the guy had it tuned at 232whp at 16 psi. I stopped at a gas station to fill it up and checked the oil, i put 2 quartz of 5w-30 in it. in it I drove it less than 35 miles. i noticed somethings going wrong as i tried to pass a car on the highway. The speed was dropping, i noticed because I put my foot on the gas nothing happened, to the floor nothing happened. The boost gauge was going crazy from 10-20 psi. Temp was right under the red line. Pulled over, and as i got into the rest stop, it died. I checked the oil and it was like i didn't add nothing into it. I tried everything to get it started again, one thing was the battery had died, put a new battery and got more oil and got it started by dropping the clutch. Then it died shortly after. got it started again let it run till the tow company got there, about 45 minutes. This was the learning experience of a rod knocking. I started for the tow company and instantly they told me to turn it off. They told me what it was and then realizing that it was knocking in the motor the whole time i sat there. Now, i have bought a new motor from slidegood, on its way to IPS Motorsports in Columbus, OH. Just wondering if i did the right thing, and if there is anything else i have to tell IPS or an info would really help. Also, when it got to IPS they said it was over filled with oil.

Lots going on in your post.

The car overheated and knocked?

The battery died yet you dind't mention a "charge" light coming on in the dash?

Have the garage perform a necropsy I suppose.

Did the oil light come on at any point? ECU throw any codes?

You lost/burnt a lot of oil in a very short amount of time...
