19 Wrx Turbo Inlet

I wanted to install a grimmspeed ebcs 3port and intake on my car so I start taking things apart. Beforehand, I had watched a YouTube video of someone disconnecting all the hoses and removing the turbo inlet. I removed the stock intake and got started with disconnecting the hoses from the stock turbo inlet. Then I noticed two extra hoses connected to my inlet, which the guy in the youtube video didnt have! Also, my turbo inlet was cast aluminum and the one in the youtube video was made out of silicone. So I was super confused and didn't know what to do. Figured I'd do what I knew best if I have questions, went online and did research. To my surprise I couldn't find a single wrx with a stock turbo inlet that was made out cast aluminum.
Thought I'd just send it and remove those additional hoses and turns out those were coolant lines.

So this brings me to the question, why is my turbo inlet cast aluminum and not silicone as all the others I've seen?
Keep in mind, I am the first owner of this wrx, so no one could have modded it previously.

Aftermarket vs OEM most likely.

Can we see a pic? Coolant lines to a turbo inlet doesn't quite make sense.

+1....

Also, the OEM turbo inlet should be ABS not silicone. Looks like there are some folks that manufacture aluminum inlets. Did you buy the car used?

Well the car hasn't been modded yet. I bought it brand new off the lot.

Yea I meant to say ABS not silicone. That makes more sense.

You are correct, I know grimmspeed produces a aluminum turbo inlet.

Thing is, I bought my car brand new off the lot, so it doesn't quite make sense. Unless they decided to throw a cast aluminum turbo inlet into the 2019 models?

That's a throttle body.
That's a throttle body.
Kinda looks like it, but no thats the turbo inlet. I took it off my car myself. It sits between the turbo and the intake piping.

No it's not. I thought the same.

That sure is your turbo inlet, a cast aluminum turbo inlet specific to the Canadian Domestic Market!

Finally a breakthrough! Thank you! I couldn't find any information on this.
It's still interesting that there is coolant flowing through the turbo inlet though.

Much appreciate the help!

Haha no worries. I didn't expect to find that! All the USDM guys are gonna rush to grab these

You saw coolant come out of those hoses? Sure they're just not vacuum hoses?

Was my first thought as well and looks very similar to the throttle body. But some digging it does seem to be the inlet as stated by the OP.

I am 100% sure. Because when I disconnected them coolant came gushing out, so I had to clamp the hoses. That's why I was super confused yet too. LOL

I guess it's a good thing that it's cast aluminum instead of ABS.

Haha ok just making sure. Yea I generally prefer metal parts under the hood, although plastic has it's place and benefits.

Only thing I can think of is that since it's aluminum and more conductive to heat, Subaru decided to run coolant through it??

But the USDM plastic inlet has vacuum hoses running to it right, so where are those on your car? I guess that's what started this whole thread lol. Will require more digging, but at least you're pointed in the right direction :)

I guess that makes sense. All the vacuum hoses are also running to it. It's pretty much the same as the plastic inlet, with addition of the coolant hoses.

Yeah, that's a good start!
What a silly design. Why would you use metal to transfer all of the heat to the incoming air?

Is there a special purpose to this for the Canadian market? Something that would handle emissions?

Not that I'm aware of...
I wonder if it is due to a federal emissions warranty clause. Much like the dpf clause in the US diesel regulations for passenger vehicles.
Guaranteed to be for emissions.
