It has been stated by WRXURV8 here that 215/45s would be the optimal size for a 17"x7" tire such as the oz superleggera. what is everyone's opinion? is anyone running a 17"x7" wheel with 225-wide tires, and what are your impressions of your setup? is it necessary to get a 17"x7.5" wheel to use 225/45R17 tires?

As far as I know, 225/45 tires will fit just fine on 17x7 wheels.

But if I may piggyback a question on your thread...

On a wagon, would 225/45/17 tires be less likely to rub on 17x7 wheels or 17x7.5 wheels? It sounds like the cases of wagon rub have been on the outer edge of the tire, needing just a few millimeters more clearance. If the extra 0.5" on a 17x7.5 wheel extends toward the center of the car (does it?) rather than towards the outside of the car, that would center the tire a quarter of an inch away from the fender. Who knows, those 6 extra millimeters might make a difference!

17x7" with 225s are fine, but 7.5" fits a little better with 225s. Not a huge difference though.

For wagons, it depends on the offset of the wheels. If they have less offset (ie 48 vs 53 for 7.5" vs 7.0" respectively) the width isn't just added to the inside. It will be split evenly. Rub on wagons generally only comes when they are lowered, IIRC.
