'16 WRX - 2nd Gear Gate Issue

Hey All,

As the title reads, I have a 2016 WRX with an installed Perrin shift stop and brass bushing. I've recently started to notice the 2nd gear gate almost "locks" me out or "pushes" back against me when I try to go from 1st to 2nd. I remember when there was just a small bump or grind, but this requires forceable effort to get past the gate... an unnatural amount of force.

Not sure if this could have ANYTHING to do with either the shift stop or bushing. My thinking is no on the shift stop, since that mostly affects left/right slop and the bushing would affect the linkage. It's colder out, but I noticed it before winter as well.

Thanks for any insight.

If the stop is too far in and the linkage tight enough you might be missing the gear.

Thanks for the reply, XJ. I initially thought this as well, but the stop has been in place for over 20,000 miles. I exposed the stop to make sure it was far enough left to not interfere with the gates being fully open.

The gate seems to open if I'm stopped and continuously shift between 1st-2nd and 2nd-1st.. almost as if it's clearing something out.
Did you try removing it
