Hey guys I am interested in upgrading my turbo from the stock to something that will produce some more power. I heard some people say to get a STI turbo off ebay and then have it tuned. What is your recommendation? Im thinking 300 hp turbo and being able to keep a good mpg on the highway. someone told me the STI turbo had a long wind up so it wouldn't be a major issue.

You mention a power goal, but don't mention whether you're looking for power to the crank or wheels. If wheels, what dyno (they all read differently)?

Yeah sorry about that I was typing it up in class. I would like to see 300 crank.

Also my WRX has about 122k miles on her. What should I worry about if I go through with the upgrade? Oh and how much power loss you think I have with the original turbo? It has to be getting pretty old.

A stock turbo with a turboback and custom reflash should be close to 300bhp

Turbo Back exhausts run between about $1300 and less, and in the Chitown area I would get a hold of P&L Motorsports - Home and ask them about tuning the car.

There are lots of places online to get an etune, but having a tuner in the area makes it much easier.
