I just put in my UTEC tonight.

I got the temporary fix from Turboxs too. (before putting the temp fix in, it was really really bad) I see the CEL flash a bit still. I took this log. I used log #1. The log is a WOT run from 1st to 3rd. Where can I get the column headers? any advice on how to tune out the knock

PS: Man it pulls like a train now!! But only when the afr is over 12.5 :( :( So there is a lag of no power then suddenly I get smashed back in my seat when it goes RICH.

what mods do you have? I would suggest changing the intake if you have an aftermarket intake:). Also, your injector duty cycle is really high. This could be cause your knocking so much, or for some other reason. Resetting the ecu might help, but it is not good to see 100% injector duty cycle(usually). Maybe a better flowing fuel filter would help, I dunno... Also, the first knock seemed to happen cause your car was running lean. Whenever you have the pedal down more then 60% and it doesn't read "rich", the car is running lean. Then you shifted, and the timing jumped so much you got a knock count of 12, then you shifted again, the timing jumped and you knocked again.. This could be fixed by adjusting the timing map. I would seriously look into the intake though, and add fuel to the rpm points where your car is running lean(but resetting the ecu might help that too). Here is a little link to a quick tuning guide, you might have to become a member to view it though.

thanks for the quick reply. There is known problem with the 04 ECU where it will not switch to open loop after you got WOT for 4 seconds or so. Thats why I was running lean. TurboXS's temp fix is they check the afr and if it's not rich enough it will not run the advanced timing. However, running 16.5 boost without UTEC's control is kinda bad hmmm.

12 to 1 is to rich, 14 to 1 is scary. Your boost is the only thing in the log that looks normal:). Your injectors should not be consistantly running over 95% duty cycle, your a/f ratio under boost should not be 14 to 1, your timing should not jump 10 degrees one way then 15 degrees the other way, then back between shifts. These are the problems. The fueling could have something to do with your car being an 04, but the shift knock does not, and I don't think th injector duty cycle does either. If you have an aftermarket intake, that would still be the first thing I'd check. Then I might change the fuel filter, adjust my timing map, maybe even change the map to tps crossover to a lower tps, and try loggin again. If you don't have the 3.2 firmware installed(it should say on the utec screen), that would be the place to start(but you said you have it).... This is all just my opinion.

I heard there is an a/f ratio setting with the new software... Maybe if you set it to 11 to 1 that would help? I don't think it really does anything yet though, but I dunno.

The lowest you can set the AFR constant is 12. Highest is 14. It keeps UTEC from taking control of timing and boost until it sees an AFR below the constant. That's how it tells the stock ECU has changed to open loop. UTEC is still modifying fueling all the time, so you can add some fuel at the knock areas when the stock ECU is in control and you have knock; that is, you can add fuel if your IDC's aren't already at 100%.

The IDC's on my 04' are high, too. But I think it's because it's running pig rich in open loop. Even at full boost, if my IDC's are above 65%, I see rich in the AFR column. This tells me it's running terribly rich at 95% IDC's.

I need a tune.

I already have it set to 12.5. Before I set the 12.5 it was really bad. the CEL would flash and the car would stop accelerating. Now it doesn't stop accelerating.

GO into special constants. Go down to Open Loop Inidicator and enter 12.5. Try that and retest. 3.2 software mayt be in there but the default setting is 0.

what did you use for your base map? I used the map they made for 04 rexes. Someone emailed it to me though. I'm thinking of downloading the 91 octane stage 2 and trying that.

Right now I'm using the base Stg. 2 93 octane map that I've tweaked in the areas I've had knock. I didn't know there was a special map out for 04's. I might have you email it to me if you don't mind.

The knock I get is really random and hard to tune out. I can drive hard w/o knock, and the next day it will be there. I think mine is affected the most by ambient temperature and humidity. There's about a 30degF difference here between morning and afternoon temps.

Be glad you've got the UTEC. You were probably knocking before and never knew it.
