Hi all,
I have an 03 WRX that is bone stock and had a code p0420 for bank 1 cat. I changed out the downpipe/stock cat with a Bosal "oem" cat. Looks to be pretty much the same minus all the heat shielding the factory cat has. I also put on new multi layered steel gaskets to ensure the whole system would be leak free. After putting the cat in and clearing the code with a cheap scanner the car felt 10 times smoother on acceleration and made better boost (factory cat was a little clogged). After about 35 miles of driving the CEL came back and it still reads the same p0420 for bank 1. Should I be resetting the ecu in a different way? Have I purchased a bad cat? (It has 5 year warranty) am I troubleshooting incorrectly? Could it have something to do with the turbo? It does have 140000 miles. Any and all advice on what to do next is greatly appreciated.
