snow ice braking

We have an '02 WRX and the brakes are terrifying in the snow. The car doesn't stop! It makes a terrible grinding sound. The dealer says that's ABS, but no other car I have ever had does this. We almost crashed as we came to an intersection. Any suggestions? Do we sell our fantastic car? Also...
