I am going to do the bronze on mine soon. Not sure how it will look, but if I dont like them its only paint.

I just painted the stockers on my 02 white with Duplicolor Acrylic Enamel. Cleaned with Simple Green, sanded with 180 and then 400. No primer or clear. Turned out great.

so, im not sure I've seen this detail in any of the wheel paint DIYs...how much do you sand? Do I go down to metal, or just to scuff up the surface?

I first used 800 and went down to the primer though that took a lot more work then I needed. I slowly changed to a higher grit first 600 - 400 - 200. I felt that I wasn't getting anything done until I started to see primer.

After a while I just kept wet sanding until the water on the wheels were a little grey and then I moved on. When they were wet it was deceptive and looked as if i didn't do anything. All you need to do is remove the clear coat and scuff up the area so that the paint has more surface to cling to.

Im sure you can do this in one day and but I took the weekend and really spent time on the prep work.

About 60 bucks for me. I already have black summer wheels, so I figured the bronze will change it up for sure. In a few more weekends I am going to tackle to project. I ordered the paint Saturday.

i didnt go to baremetal because paint sticks best to paint, i just started with 800 until i got rid of all the clear coat, you want them to dry and inspect them so they are all even and dull, and then go from here, you can elevate the grit to 2000, depending n how you want the finish, i stopped at 1000 for a semi gloss finish
